Give a Valentine’s Day Gift That Will Last a Lifetime
By Josh Goldstein
Are you scrambling around looking for the perfect Valentine's gift?
Sure, you can go with chocolates and roses – a traditional way of showing the people you love how you feel.
But what about giving something more lasting and significant to show your loved ones you plan on being there for them now and far into the future?
You could commit to a heart-healthy diet or an exercise program. And certainly if you smoke, quitting shows you care about your health and the health of those around you.
The American Heart Association notes: "Smoking is the most important preventable cause of premature death in the United States. Smokers have a higher risk of developing many chronic disorders, including atherosclerosis – the buildup of fatty substances in the arteries – which can lead to coronary heart disease, heart attack (myocardial infarction) and stroke."
So on Valentine's Day, show how much you care for those around you by giving up those cigarettes.
Jefferson interventional cardiologist David L. Fischman, MD, says most smokers need two things to quit and stay that way.
"You need to want to quit," Dr. Fischman says, "and most people need help to succeed."
JeffQuit provides that assistance. It is a three-week program that offers a medically proven method that gradually decreases nicotine over time, giving you the best possible outcome.
On Valentine's Day, February 14, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., JeffQuit is holding the first of three group sessions for the current program. In addition to the group sessions, the program offers participants individual coaching, hypnosis and stop-smoking aids for less than you would spend on cigarettes in a month.
