Bone Cancer Treatment at Jefferson

If you are diagnosed with a bone cancer such as chondrosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma, myeloma bone disease, multiple myeloma or osteosarcoma, turn to the orthopedic and cancer specialists of the Jefferson Musculoskeletal Oncology Center.

Combining the renowned orthopedic surgeons of the Rothman Institute at Jefferson and the world-class oncology services at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, our Center offers a multidisciplinary approach that includes weekly musculoskeletal oncology radiology conferences for diagnosis and biopsy planning, and Tumor Board conferences attended by medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, orthopedic surgeons and bone and soft tissue pathologists specializing in sarcoma care for treatment planning.

We can offer you a full range of radiation services, including radiofrequency ablation and a new CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System for treating difficult spinal metastases.

We are focused on providing the highest quality oncologic resections of extremity bone and soft tissue malignancies while preserving maximal function. In the vast majority of cases, we are able to perform limb-salvage surgery so that you can continue to maintain an active lifestyle. In addition to these services, we have a dedicated team of anesthesiologists and rehabilitation medicine physicians who have developed protocols specifically for musculoskeletal oncology patients that optimize their experience not only while undergoing surgery but also during rehabilitation and subsequent return to their normal lifestyles.

Patient and Caregiver Support

We will provide you and your family a support network that includes specially trained nurses, educators, fellow patients and cancer survivors.

Among the wide variety of support programs offered at Jefferson is our Buddy Program, which matches cancer patients with trained volunteer cancer survivors who have been through treatment themselves. These volunteers provide one-on-one support either over the telephone or on-site in the waiting area at the Bodine Center for Radiation Therapy/Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson. You can also access services to meet your emotional and psychological needs during your course of treatment through the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine.
