Glioma Treatment at Jefferson

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a glioma (a type of brain tumor), turn to the multidisciplinary clinical team at Jefferson. Jefferson physicians are among the most experienced in the nation for the treatment of this condition, participating in national trials and strategic initiatives from the National Cancer Institute.

In a game-changing article published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Jefferson physicians discuss a treatment technique that has extended the survival of patients with glioblastoma beyond any previously published results.

Our team has developed a unique technique for delivering salvage therapy to patients with malignant gliomas that has nearly doubled median survival time from 14 to 24 months.

A multidisciplinary team including neurosurgeons, neuropathologists, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists and neuro-immunologists will soon launch a novel immunotherapy trial unique to Jefferson for the treatment of patients with malignant gliomas.

CyberKnife Treatment

If you have a recurrent glioma and surgery or conventional radiation is not an option, our radiation oncologists offer CyberKnife, the first frameless robotic radiosurgery system that can destroy tumors or other lesions without the need for open surgery. Like many robotic procedures, CyberKnife offers physicians a much greater range of reaching tumor sites that were previously considered to be untreatable using other stereotactic radiosurgery methods.

This procedure is only offered at Rothman Specialty Hospital, located in Bensalem, Pa., which is one of only 150 centers in the world to offer the state-of-the-art CyberKnife treatment.
