Meningioma Treatment at Jefferson

Jefferson physicians are among the most experienced in the world at treating this common benign brain tumor. Our physicians utilize the most current microsurgical and radiosurgery (focused radiation) techniques. The multidisciplinary brain tumor team has seen and treated more than 500 meningiomas.

Utilizing the pioneering technique called fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSR), patients with meningiomas involving the optic nerve who were going blind were cured of their tumor and their vision was restored.

Our radiation oncologists also offer CyberKnife, the first frameless robotic radiosurgery system that can destroy tumors or other lesions without the need for open surgery. Like many robotic procedures, CyberKnife offers physicians a much greater range of reaching tumor sites that were previously considered to be untreatable using other stereotactic radiosurgery methods.
