Michael J. Marmura, M.D., Joins the Department of Neurology at Jefferson
Michael
J. Marmura, M.D., recently joined the Department of Neurology at Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH), and was also named an assistant
professor of Neurology at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson
University. Dr. Marmura specializes in the treatment of headache and
facial pain.
Dr.
Marmura received his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth
University School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia in 2002. He earned
a bachelor of science degree in Biology from the College of William and
Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1995. Dr. Marmura completed an
internship in Internal Medicine from 2002-2003 and a residency in
Neurology from 2003-2006 at the University of Maryland Hospital in
Baltimore, Maryland. He completed a headache fellowship from 2006-2008
at TJUH.
Dr.
Marmura is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American
Headache Society, the International Headache Society and the
Philadelphia Neurological Society. He is a board-certified neurologist
with a board-certification in headache. His list of awards are many,
including the 2007 American Headache Society’s 49th Annual Scientific
Meeting Scholarship Award and the American Headache Society’s Clinical
Headache Fellowship Award.
Dr. Marmura has published research in the journal Headache,
and has authored, or co-authored, many editorials and chapters on the
different types and causes of headache. Particular areas of interest
include cluster headache, hemicrania continua, metabolic syndrome and
biomarkers in migraine and electronic medical records in the treatment
of pain. In addition to his contributions within the medical community,
he has also dedicated time to helping those in need. He has served as
both a hospital and medical student volunteer and was a U.S. Peace
Corps volunteer in Jablonka, Poland from 1995-1997.
