Mani S. Kavuru, M.D., Named Director, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Jefferson
Mani S. Kavuru, M.D., has been named the director of the
Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and has also been named a professor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and joins the faculty after four years as Service Chief, Pulmonary and Critical Care at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina.
“During my tenure as director, I hope to make Jefferson a destination for top-notch clinical care in the region for complex tertiary patients as well as common respiratory disease,” said Kavuru. “I intend on growing our integrated outpatient practice emphasizing access, patient friendly customer service and expert care.”
After graduating from Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, Dr. Kavuru, completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic and was a member of the full-time staff there for 14 years.
Board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Kavuru will be emphasizing growth in specific sub-specialty areas including lung nodules, sarcoidosis, advanced and rare lung disease, pulmonary vascular disease and asthma. Growth in the division to support medical critical care and interventional pulmonology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital will also be a goal of Dr. Kavuru and his staff.
Dr. Kavuru’s translational research has focused on several lung diseases including asthma, sarcoidosis, and a rare lung disorder called pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
Over his career Dr. Kavuru has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, presented at several national and international conferences and has led numerous research studies funded by a variety of sources including the FDA and NIH.
He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Physicians, and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
