Jefferson Oncologist to Be Featured on Discovery Channel October 30 and November 6

On two upcoming Saturdays — October 30 and November 6 — Edith Mitchell, MD, of the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, will appear on the Discovery Channel at 8 a.m. to provide vital information on triple-negative breast cancer. "Patient Ed: Triple-Negative Breast Cancer: Get The Facts" is also available as a podcast and viewable online.

The patient education program addresses triple-negative breast cancer, including risk factors, treatment and promising research being done on targeted therapy for the disease. Triple-negative breast cancer can affect any woman, but the risk is different among different groups and occurs more in certain populations, including African-American women.

Triple-negative breast cancer can be treated, but it is aggressive and presents special challenges and risks. Throughout the hour, a group of women will share personal stories about their diagnosis, treatment decisions they faced and ways they are coping with the disease.

The program will be narrated by S. Epatha Merkerson.

Dr. Mitchell is Professor of Medical Oncology at Jefferson Medical College.
