Jefferson Cardiologists Write the Book on Heart Care

Doctors from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University have written and published a new, comprehensive guide on heart care titled: Jefferson Heart Institute Handbook of Cardiology.  The medical textbook is geared toward medical students, residents and fellows, internists and cardiologists, offering a concise guide of cardiac disorders and how to treat them. The book will be available in September, 2010.

“The Jefferson Heart Institute has such a compilation of expertise that it is an ideal community of cardiologists to write a text book on the clinical care of the patient,” said Paul Mather, M.D., director, Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Center at the Jefferson Heart Institute and editor of the book. “Our Institute treats thousands of patients each year with every kind of cardiac disorder. We have some of the nations thought leaders in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disorders. We thought it was a good fit to share our knowledge with the next generation of medical care providers.”

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US. The Jefferson Heart Institute Handbook of Cardiology addresses several contributing factors and treatments including:

  • A comprehensive review of the full range of cardiac disorders
  • Cardiac disease risk factors, prevention and management
  • Discussions on cardiac imaging
  • General principles on cardiac critical care and heart failure

“We cover a lot of ground as concisely as possible in this book,” said Mather.

“This can really benefit a young physician who needs quick access to any one of a myriad of cardiac related topics. One of our missions at Jefferson is to educate. It is our hope that our cardiac expertise summed up in this book further contributes to the education of the next generation of physician.”
