Dr. Andrew Newberg Comments on Transcendental Meditation in ABC News Article
Many soldiers who return from Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. They will use medication or talk therapy to relieve their symptoms, but sometimes that just doesn't help.
One soldier turned to transcendental meditation. According to an ABC News article, it's a "mind-based practice that involves focusing on a particular phrase, word or image to bring focus to individual thoughts."
Dr. Andrew Newberg, director of research at the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine, comments on the subject by saying, "we've always been really surprised by how much people like these practices. But the big question is whether it relieves the symptoms, or really does help with PTSD as a whole."
