Dr. Karen Novielli Talks Women and Medicine in The News Journal

Many women struggle with the demands of juggling work and raising a family. For female physicians, decisions about having children can be extremely difficult, depending on what they specialize in, how many patients they have and whether they will lose their career footing by becoming a mother.

The News Journal tackles this issue and quotes Dr. Karen Novielli, senior associate dean at Jefferson Medical College. JMC is celebrating its 50th anniversary of admitting women to its institution.

"People want to work and live. Finding that life balance, whether it's family, community service, can be hard," said Dr. Novielli, also a family and geriatric medicine specialist at Jefferson University Hospitals.
