Jefferson's Efforts to Lower Incidence of Wrong-Side Surgeries Featured in NewsWorks

Jefferson University Hospitals recently took part in an effort to lower the incidence of wrong-side, or wrong-site, procedures.

Richard Webster, RN, MSN, vice president of Perioperative and Musculoskeletal Services at Jefferson, is quoted in a NewsWork.org article as saying, "As we examined each stage of the process, we were able to reduce the number of opportunities that we found for possible error significantly. In some areas, I think we cut them in half."

According to the article, the "number of patients receiving procedures on the wrong side, or the wrong site, is estimated to be as high as 40 each week."
