Dr. Robert Rosenwasser and Toby Mazer Discuss Stroke Awareness on PHL 17
Stroke affects more than 800,000 people a year. Dr. Robert Rosenwasser, Toby Mazer and stroke survivor Stephen Kossuth discuss stroke awareness in an interview on PHL 17. (The video starts around the 1:05 mark.)
Stephen Kossuth started to experience the symptoms of stroke, from not being able to move his arm to his leg. His mom, a nurse, was able to diagnose him with a stroke and called 9-1-1.
Dr. Rosenwasser, chair of Jefferson's Department of Neurological Surgery, comments on what to look for when someone is experiencing a stroke - such as weakness in the arm and not being able to complete a sentence - and the available treatment options. He stresses that time is of the essence.
Toby Mazer, administrative director of the Jefferson Stroke Center whose late husband suffered a stroke, started the Delaware Valley Stroke Council to help in stroke prevention and recognizing the signs of stroke.
