Dr. Kelly Quoted in HealthDay News About Hormone Drugs for Prostate Cancer

According to a new study, men with prostate cancer who are being treated with hormone therapy do not appear to be at an increased risk of heart-related deaths.

Dr. William Kelly, medical oncologist at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, shares his comments on this study in a HealthDay News article. Dr. Kelly says, "The use of hormone therapy and radiation is of benefit for patients. In this study, the benefits of hormone therapy outweighed the risks."

However, the patients in the study were not patients in the general population and may not have been at risk of cardiovascular events. He adds, "You have to understand the risk-benefit ratio in each population. You can't just apply it across the board to all patients."
