Dr. Kavuru Talks to WHYY Radio About Early Detection for Lung Cancer
A National Cancer Institute study found that low-dose spiral CAT scans cut cancer deaths by 20 percent, compared to a traditional chest X-ray. As a result, Jefferson is now offering patients an initial screening test using a low-dose spiral CAT scan.
Dr. Mani Kavuru, director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Jefferson, talks to WHYY Radio about the new screening. He says, "There should be an intelligent conversation that happens between a patient and a health care provider. This is not just for people who just want to know, this is for people at the highest risk of lung cancer."
