Dr. Shenot Comments on Use of Botox for Incontinence in Philadelphia Inquirer Story
While most people associate Botox with plastic surgery and the temporary elimination of wrinkles, it is also used to treat various other medical conditions. In August of 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Botox to treat incontinence, or loss of bladder control, due to neurological conditions when oral medications cannot be taken.
Dr. Patrick Shenot, a physician within the Department of Urology at Jefferson and principal investigator of a related clinical trial, comments on this use of Botox in a Philadelphia Inquirer story. He explains that the results typically range from minor improvements to a total cure of incontinence episodes.
