EverydayHealth.com Interviews Dr. Viscusi About Home Remedies for Back Pain

There are numerous home remedies for back pain including wearing red flannel, bee stings and eating black beans. Some of these remedies have been studied by researchers, but many do not hold up under modern scientific scrutiny.

In an interview with EverydayHealth.com, Dr. Eugene Viscusi, director of Acute Pain Management in the Department of Anesthesiology at Jefferson, explains, "Home remedies are, sadly, a little disappointing when we study them."

Dr. Viscusi comments on some of the most common home remedies. In the case of wearing red flannel, he says, "There's value to therapeutic touch. If that interests you, you might want to try massage therapy, which has been proved to help ease back pain."
