Dr. Shen's Brachytherapy Study for Prostate Cancer Covered by MedPage Today

A study conducted by researchers at the Jefferson Kimmel Cancer Center revealed that treatment of high-grade prostate cancer with brachytherapy, either alone or with external beam radiation, significantly reduced prostate cancer-specific mortality rates compared with external beam radiation alone.

Study authors summarize their findings: "In patients with high-grade prostate cancer, treatment with brachytherapy is associated with reduced prostate cancer-specific mortality when compared with EBRT alone. Our results suggest that brachytherapy should be investigated as a component of definitive treatment strategies for patients with high-risk prostate cancer."

This study, led by Dr. Xinglei Shen, is featured in a MedPage Today article: "Brachytherapy Ups Prostate Cancer Survival."
