Dr. Armenti Discusses Health Impact of Pregnancy on Liver Transplant Patients in Associated Press
Trine Engebretsen, a Miami resident, was Florida's first liver transplant recipient and her son, born in July, is the first child born to parents who both have had liver transplants. While the liver recipient group does not appear to be at higher risk than others, female transplant recipients do have a higher rate of premature or low birth weight babies.
Engebretsen was no longer taking immunosuppressive medication and according to Vincent Armenti, MD, principal investigator at the National Transplantation Pregnancy Registry at Jefferson in an Associated Press story, "That removed the question if the medication could affect the fetus."
