Dr. Bazzan Quoted in Delaware News Journal About Dietary Supplements

More than 150 million Americans take dietary supplements annually but the scientific evidence proving that they are effective in warding off cancer is inconclusive, according to a Delaware News Journal article. In fact, the article says, the relationship between cancer and dietary supplements is one of the most difficult areas to study.

Largely, it is beneficial to get important nutrients from food rather than pills. In the article, Dr. Anthony Bazzan, co-director of the Great Life Program at the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine, explains, "Vitamin C is wonderful but it should be obtained from fresh vegetables. Ascorbic acid is a chemical they put into a pill. Is it better than nothing? Yes. But it doesn't hold a candle to what you get from the plant."
