Dr. David Cognetti Interviewed by NBC 10 About Rise of HPV-related Head and Neck Cancer

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually-transmitted disease most notable for causing cervical cancer in women. However, in an NBC 10 interview, David Cognetti, MD, co-director of the Jefferson Center for Head and Neck Surgery, predicts that we are on the early end of an epidemic. Dr. Cognetti attributes the increase in tonsil cancer, particularly in men, to HPV.

“The good news is that unlike the traditional head neck cancers, those that are related specifically to the HPV virus tend to be much more curable,” says Dr. Cognetti.
