Dr. Gomella Featured in Philadelphia Inquirer Story Addressing Recent Prostate Cancer News
A recent study found that selenium and vitamin E supplements do not prevent prostate cancer, and vitamin E alone can actually promote it.
In a Philadelphia Inquirer story, Dr. Leonard Gomella, chair, Department of Urology at Jefferson's Kimmel Cancer Center, comments, "The results basically tell us that, while we have the impression that vitamins are good and more must be better, we need to be cautious."
Dr. Gomella also comments on a second prostate cancer issue in the news: the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force's recommendation not to be screened with a PSA test. He advises "active surveillance" to monitor prostate cancer that is not an immediate health risk, according to the article.
