Dr. Silberstein Interviewed by Self Magazine About Tension Headache
Two of the most common types of headache are tension headache, caused by low blood sugar, dehydration or stress and rebound headache, caused by certain pain medications when used more than two days per week.
Dr. Stephen Silberstein, director of the Headache Center at Jefferson, was interviewed by Self magazine about possible treatment options.
For a tension headache, Dr. Silberstein believes that an OTC pain reliever is all that is needed for relief.
For a rebound headache, he advises, "Work with your doctor to identify and slowly wean yourself off the medication causing the problem. Your M.D. will probably try a different drug to treat your pain."
