MSNBC.com, KYW Newsradio and Gloucester Co. Times Interview Dr. Spiegel About Teachers Losing Their Voices

Teachers make up about 16 percent of the 37 million people in the United States who are dubbed occupational voice users. On average, teachers are more than twice as likely as non-teachers to have voice problems.

Lauren Roberts, a fourth-grade teacher at Chews Elementary School in New Jersey, found herself nearly speechless at the end of every work week. Dr. Joseph Spiegel, co-director of the Jefferson Voice and Swallowing Center, explains in an MSNBC.com article, "The younger the children, the more they're having to use their voices for crowd control."
