Dr. Winn Discusses Treatment of LGBT Patients in American Medical News
In general, the LGBT community has increased health risks and is more likely to engage in risky behaviors. However, data reveals that this population remains medically underserved.
In an American Medical News story, Robert J. Winn, MD, physician in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Jefferson, discusses the variety of health issues facing members of the LGBT community and the importance of educating healthcare professionals about treating the unique needs of this population.
Dr. Winn says, "Physicians may not think this applies to them but I promise you, almost every doctor who has patients, especially in primary care, has LGBT patients. They just might not know it because the patient doesn't feel comfortable talking about it."
