Jefferson's Efforts to Promote Breastfeeding on WHYY Radio

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that newborns exclusively receive breast milk in the first six months of life, but a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report found that about 80 percent of U.S. hospitals give formula to healthy infants even when they are being breastfed.

Carol Carofiglio, a maternity care nurse at Jefferson, says "Jefferson nurses are helping to establish new policies that support breastfeeding moms."

In an effort to help new moms learn their child's feeding cues, Jefferson now suggests that moms room-in with their baby.
