Cleft Lip/Palate Bone Graft at Jefferson
Bone grafting of the upper jaw (maxilla) is a surgical procedure for correcting facial clefts (a gap or split in the upper lip or in the roof of the mouth). It involves taking a small amount of bone from one place (usually the hip, head, ribs or leg) and placing it in the area of the cleft near the teeth.
At Jefferson, a multidisciplinary team of speech-language pathologists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, pediatricians, otolaryngologists (ear, nose and throat physicians) and other healthcare professionals work together to manage and correct you or your child's cleft lip or cleft palate.
