Computed Tomography (CT) Scan of the Chest at Jefferson

Using the most advanced computed tomography (CT) technology, cardiologists and radiologists at Jefferson are able to perform what is known as CT angiography to diagnose suspected heart disease. For some patients, this eliminates the need to undergo more invasive cardiac catheterization procedures and allows your physicians to make the most accurate diagnostic decisions, avoid unnecessary tests and devise an appropriate treatment plan if disease is detected.

Jefferson is the only hospital in the Philadelphia region—and one of only a handful in the nation—to offer the Philips Brilliance iCT 256-slice scanner. This advanced technology allows us to image arteries and the heart with never-before-seen clarity and details in order to make accurate diagnoses of coronary heart disease. Additionally, the scanner is extremely useful in the emergency room for patients who present with chest pain that may be related to cardiac or noncardiac causes. The "Triple Rule Out" – pulmonary embolism, acute coronary syndrome and aortic dissection – can now be achieved with one quick scan, rather than with multiple diagnostic tests.
