Scope of Services for the Pain Management Center

General Intake:

  • History and Physical
  • Appropriate testing (e.g., MRI, X-ray, etc.)

Perform special Studies:

  • Diagnostic nerve blocks
  • Double-blind, placebo-controlled infusion

Provide medical treatment:

  • Non-narcotic medication management
  • Narcotic management for pain due to cancer
  • Narcotic management for pain due to nonmalignant conditions under select circumstances

Provide Anesthesia-Related Treatments:

  • Route nerve block and injection therapy
  • Advance nerve block injections under fluoroscopic guidance
  • Long term intraspinal infusions
  • Spinal cord stimulator trials
  • Radiofrequency neuroablation

Triage

  • Triage of patient to other physicians/therapists

Psychiatric and Behavioral Pain Medicine Services

  • Comprehensive psychology pain consultations
  • Brief psychometric assessments
  • Multidisciplinary pain center treatment planning meetings
  • Ongoing psychopharmacological and brief supportive psychotherapy for selected cases
  • referral services to intensive outpatient and/or inpatient pain treatment and intensive psychotherapy providers collaborating with the Jefferson Pain Center
  • Biofeedback treatment including statis muscle scanning, stress training, autogenic and relaxation training, home program.
  • Patients requiring elective or urgent hospitalization for emotional or psychological issues should be referred to their nearest Emergency Room or the Emergency Room at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Types of Patients that are referred to the Jefferson Pain Center:

  • Chronic cancer pain
  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (RSD)
  • Phantom limb pain
  • Post-herpetic neuralgia
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Intercostal Neuralgia

Insurance:

The Jefferson Pain Center works with selected HMO’s, workers compensation, Medicaid, Medicare and commercial insurers. While we will accept insurance payments as payment in full, if we participate with a plan, we do expect payment at the time of the visit for co-payments and services not covered by insurance.

HOURS:

Monday – Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm by appointment only.
