EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COURSE OFFERING

Objective:

To bring Weapons of Mass Destruction and Emergency Response Training to health care facilities at their location.  The Center for Bioterrorism and Disaster Preparedness will offer a no cost course at your location that will be custom tailored to meet the requirements of your staff and facility.

The Course:

The courses we offer range from a one hour lecture presentation to complete 4-8 hour programs including hands-on modules.  The complete courses consists of a didactic module that will cover the threat of terrorism and WMD, specific threats such as nuclear radiation, chemical agents, blast and explosives and the medical management of these threats.  Review of incident management systems, communications, and the Strategic National Stockpile may be included if appropriate for the target audience.

The practical component consists of skills stations where students will learn the hands-on of how to put on and take off various protective gear, decontamination procedures, and the medical management of patients with state of the art computerized simulation mannequins.

Depending on your needs, the course will then proceed with a functional or full scale exercise where professionally moulaged patients and simulation mannequins will be used to bring a sense of reality to the drill that will be JCAHO compliant for hospitals.

The course will conclude with an “After Action” round table discussion of the exercise. The drill can be video taped at your request and can be used in-house by your organization for future reference and training.

An optional tabletop exercise can be presented in order to practice and evaluate your organization’s incident command system and disaster plan.

Benefits to you:  The Center for Bioterrorism and Disaster Preparedness is recognized by the CDC as a Specialty Center for Public Health Preparedness.  There will be multiple instructors at your training event that are experts in various disciplines.  The team varies by the specific program, but may consist of EMTs, paramedics, nurses, firefighters, physicians, and emergency managers.

The training can assist you in meeting your JCAHO requirements.

Continuing education credits will be awarded to EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physicians and pharmacists.

This course with all the staff and equipment will be held at your location, at your convenience, adjusted for your specific needs. Because this course is federally funded, it will be held at no cost to you organization. This is a high quality course that will have a direct positive effect on the operations of your facility in a large-scale event. We can tailor the course to challenge even the most advanced provider.
