Sclerosing adenosis is a benign (noncancerous) breast condition that involves excessive growth of tissues in the breast's lobules, often resulting in breast pain. Usually the changes are microscopic, and cannot be felt or seen on clinical examination. However, adenosis can sometimes produce lumps, and it can appear on mammography, often as a calcification consisting of small deposits of calcium in tissue.
Care: Because sclerosing adenosis is often difficult to distinguish from cancer, physicians usually perform a surgical biopsy to diagnosis and treat this condition.
