Internal Radiation Therapy (Brachytherapy) for Esophageal Cancer

Jefferson's Kimmel Cancer Center is one of the few places in the area to offer internal radiation treatment. With this method of treatment, radioactive material is placed directly into or close by the tumor. Internal radiation therapy gives a higher total dose of radiation in a shorter time than is possible with external treatment. This procedure is usually done once a week for over three to five weeks and is reserved for patients with specific circumstances.
