The Liver Tumor Program team at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is committed to using a multi-modality
approach for treating liver cancer. In other words, we may use more than one form of therapy to treat a liver tumor.
Depending on your unique circumstances, we may recommend radiation or chemoembolization followed by surgery – or surgical
resection followed by radiation. The bottom line is, we work with each patient as an individual, assessing the unique situation
and then recommending a course of treatment that will best address your needs.
We maintain a Liver Tumor Board with representatives from a variety of medical specialties – including medical oncology, liver
transplantation, hepatology and interventional radiology. With each new patient, we gather all of the pertinent records, perform
any additional required tests, and then review each case at our Liver Tumor Board meeting. In this way, you can be assured
that your case will be carefully considered by a full range of specialists – and that we will recommend an optimal course
of treatment. Once your case has been reviewed by the Board, our Liver Tumor Program nurses will contact you to arrange for
your treatment.
