Surgery for Stomach Cancer

Stomach cancer is most often treated with surgery in an operation called gastrectomy. Part or all of the stomach may be removed, along with surrounding tissue. After a partial gastrectomy, the surgeon connects the remaining part of the stomach to the esophagus or small intestine. After a total gastrectomy, the surgeon connects the esophagus directly to the small intestine.
