Treatment for Stomach Cancer

Treatment for stomach cancer varies from patient to patient. Before developing a treatment plan that's right for you, we take into consideration the size and location of the tumor, results of the lab tests, the stage or extent of the disease, the degree to which it has spread and your age and general health, as well as your preferences about treatment options.

There are two methods for treating stomach cancer, local and systemic.

Local - treatments used to remove, destroy or control the cancer cells in a specific area. Surgery and radiation therapy are considered local treatments.
Systemic - treatments used to destroy or control cancer cells anywhere in the body. Chemotherapy is a systemic treatment that utilizes certain drugs to kill cancer cells.

A patient may receive just one form of treatment or a combination.
