Testicular Cancer Treatment at Jefferson
Testicular cancer is one of the most curable types of cancer. As with any other type of cancer, early detection can make all the difference. And, while it may be easy to put off symptoms like a lump in your testicles, enlarged testicles or pain or discomfort in your testicle or in your scrotum, getting to your physician quickly is important.
Seminomas and nonseminomas are the two types of testicular cancer. Each of these testicular cancer types grows and spreads differently and is treated differently.
If you have been diagnosed with testicular cancer, turn to Jefferson's Multidisciplinary Genitourinary Oncology Center in the Kimmel Cancer Center. The Kimmel Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center and home to internationally renowned cancer physicians and research scientists.

Our Multidisciplinary Genitourinary Oncology Center is one of only a handful of centers in the U.S. dedicated to advanced patient care for prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and other urologic cancers. As one of only six cancer centers in the nation designated as a Center of Excellence by Fertile Hope, Jefferson provides reproductive support to cancer patients and survivors whose cancer treatment may pose risks to fertility.
Depending upon your diagnosis and the size and location of the tumor, you may be a candidate for minimally invasive surgery, which utilizes laparoscopic procedures. Our cancer physicians and urologic surgeons have been pioneers in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery since 1990. Minimally invasive surgery decreases hospital stay, reduces the risk of infection, decreases pain and facilitates faster recovery.
If your treatment for seminomas involves radiation therapy, you will be treated at the Bodine Center for Radiation Therapy/Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson. It is the region's busiest radiation oncology center and focuses the collaborative efforts of highly accomplished radiation oncologists, surgeons, medical oncologists and other specialists in leading-edge cancer treatments including radiation implants, high-dose remote afterloading, intraoperative radiation therapy and hyperthermia.
Integrative medicine — which includes nutritional, stress reduction and complementary medicine – is a part of the Center and is provided at the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center for Integrative Medicine.
