Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is a regional leader in electrophysiology, which is the treatment of heart arrhythmias (rhythm disorders) and related conditions. Jefferson Hospital physicians are on the forefront regionally and nationally in diagnosis and treatment of arrythmias. The medical staff of the Electrophysiology Laboratory at Jeff:

  • Utilizes computer-aided diagnostic evaluation techniques, including  computerized mapping systems, to locate rhythm disorders precisely
  • Collaborates with cardiovascular surgeons to implant permanent   pacemakers, for conditions such as bradyarrhythmias (slow heart rhythms).
  • Uses one particular model, a biventricular pacemaker, for cardiac resynchronization therapy that restores the ability of the left and right ventricles of a patient’s heart to beat together in order to maintain adequate circulation throughout the body and provide energy to patients with congestive heart failure.
  • Implants – in addition to permanent pacemakers – cardiodefibrillators for malignant ventricular arrhythmias associated with cardiac arrest.
  • Also utilizes non-surgical methods such as ablation to correct such problems as tachycardias (fast heart rhythms).
