College Courses – Undergraduate and Graduate

Jeff at Night, Jefferson College of Health Professions, offers a course taught by our program faculty that can be taken for either undergraduate or graduate credit.

Course Description

HEALTH 301/IDSC 501: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Personal and Professional Wellness (3-4 credits, graduate or undergraduate). Starts again Fall 2009.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has proven to be most effective in promoting physical and psychological wellness and is increasingly recommended by medical and healthcare practitioners. Jeff-at-Night is offering Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Personal and Professional Wellness in the Fall Semester 2009. The total experience is intended to promote personal and professional wellness and to provide a foundation for those interested in integrating mindfulness into their professional practice. The course reviews stress physiology, the influence of stress on disease processes, and the substantial evidence-based research that documents the numerous health benefits of MBSR. The course includes the practice of formal mindfulness meditation techniques in weekly sessions as well as an optional one-day mindfulness retreat. The class can be taken for graduate or undergraduate credit and meets once a week from 5:20 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Eligible employees can use their Jefferson education benefit to take this course.
