This multidisciplinary center for the study, prevention and treatment of colon and rectal cancer, offers expert primary prevention
(lifestyle modification counseling) and secondary prevention (early detection through flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy).
A program utilizing high-dose preoperative radiation and special sphincter-preservation surgical techniques has been in place
since 1976, and the results promise to provide substantial new hope for the patient with rectal cancer. A highly refined treatment
selection process utilizes the expertise of surgeons, medical oncologists, surgical pathologists, radiation oncologists, geneticists,
nurses and ultrasound specialists, among others.
A weekly conference reviews the management of new patients as well as those already under treatment or follow-up observation.
The center provides consultative services for oncology specialists nationwide.
