About the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program
Today, approximately one in 25 Americans is morbidly obese. That is, anyone who is roughly 100 pounds overweight or roughly 75 pounds overweight with other weight-related conditions such as hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea and/or high cholesterol.
For the vast majority of the morbidly obese, diet and exercise simply don't lead to significant, or sustained, weight loss. Fortunately, for many people, bariatric (weight-loss) surgery provides a better alternative – helping to break the cycle of obesity.
Jefferson's Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program in Philadelphia offers a range of fully laparoscopic procedures – including gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy – to help you begin the journey to a healthier life. Since our Program was established in 2008, more than 575 patients who underwent one of our fully laparoscopic procedures to treat morbid obesity have lost a total of 23,000+ pounds.
Our outcomes, including weight loss and complication rates, are outstanding. We attribute our success to exacting care of patients before, during and after surgery and adherence to American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence guidelines.
Our Program consists of a team of experienced and dedicated healthcare professionals offering you the safest, most successful bariatric surgery experience possible. Our surgeons are board certified by the American Board of Surgery. We collaborate with our nurse practitioners, dieticians, psychologists and medical consultant physicians – taking time to get to know you to help ensure you receive the highest-quality care.
The decision to have weight-loss surgery should not be taken lightly. As you explore these potentially life-changing procedures, you're sure to have plenty of questions and/or concerns. We encourage you to reach out to our team. We're here to help you understand the benefits and weigh the risks.
