About the Bodine Center for Radiation Therapy
Established in 1987, the Bodine Center for Radiation Therapy / Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson is the Philadelphia region's busiest radiation oncology center. The Center focuses the collaborative efforts of highly accomplished radiation oncologists, surgeons, medical oncologists and other specialists in leading-edge cancer treatments including radiation implants, high-dose remote afterloading, intraoperative radiation therapy and hyperthermia.
Our radiation oncologists subspecialize in tumor types and specialized therapies and are seeking to improve outcomes of cancer patients, in part through carefully combined and sequenced therapies enlisting the help of surgeons and medical oncologists.
In addition to a sizable core of patients who realize cures, palliation or resolution of their cancers through more traditional radiation therapy, other patients are benefiting from:
- Implanted radioactive seeds
- Radiation during surgery
- Tissue heating as a cancer-killing modality
In the Bodine Center for Radiation Therapy's modern, computerized facilities, treatment strategies are made more precise through the input and research by our radiation biologists and medical physicists. At the Center, electron and photon-beam treatment is afforded by two 6-megavolt and two 25-megavolt linear accelerators with full 3-D
treatment planning and delivery capacity.
