Chinese Health Information Line

The staff on duty provides health information, makes medical appointments and referrals, provides interpretation over the phone and registers clients for childbirth and parenting classes. The Health Line is available weekdays fromĀ 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Interpretation Services
Interpretation services are available for hospitalized patients and community members who use Jefferson services. Interpretation can be done via telephone or in person on an appointment basis. For more information, please call the Health Line at 215-955-8282.

Vaccination for Children
The Jefferson Chinatown Vaccination Program (JCVP) began in January 1997 when Jefferson Hospital collaborated with Chinatown Medical Services (CMS) to provide free childhood immunizations. Under this Program, CMS provides free vaccines for Chinese patients less than 18 years of age. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact CMS at 215-627-8000.

Chinese Health Library
The Center maintains a library with health-related Chinese books, journals, brochures and videos that are available for loan to the community. These resources address a variety of healthcare topics. Some health education materials are also available for purchase through the Center.

Social Services

The Center provides patients and community members with health insurance information and referrals to Chinese-speaking case workers in order to get access to medical care. For more information, please call the Health Line at 215-955-8282.

OB/GYN Clinic
The Chinese Obstetrics/Gynecologic Clinic is part of Jefferson OB/GYN Associates located on the second floor of 833 Chestnut Street. The Clinic is staffed by a Chinese-speaking physician and nurses to provide prenatal care and gynecological care. All Chinese-speaking patients delivering at Jefferson University Hospital will receive a complimentary set of prenatal and postpartum educational books and video in Chinese. Childbirth and parenting classes are also available for Chinese parents. For more information, please call the Health Line at 215-955-8282.

Education & Outreach

While many of our services are rendered within the premises of Jefferson, we are keenly aware of the importance of conducting outreach. Our bilingual education and outreach nurse pays regular visits to Chinese restaurants, factories, churches and other community organizations. Bilingual educational materials are made available and follow-up appointments are often scheduled.

The outreach effort not only helps to promote health awareness among the Chinese-speaking population it also lays the groundwork for subsequent health screenings. The Center administers the following screenings to the Chinese community:

  • General health screenings for hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease to 1,000 people
  • Hepatitis B screening to 500 people
  • Mammograms to 500 women 40 years and older
  • Osteoporosis screening to 750 women 40 years and older
