There is no one diet to maintain weight but you do need to maintain healthy eating habits. Eat at regular times – undereating causes overeating. Eat breakfast everyday; the majority of formerly overweight people eat breakfast. Weigh yourself regularly – at least once a week – but daily is fine in order to establish the habit of self weighing. If you see your weight go up 5 or more pounds then begin recording your food intake so you can get a handle on where the excess calories are coming from.

Build your diet around lean protein, vegetables, legumes and low fat dairy products. Pay attention to your portions. Minimize your intake of high fat, highly processed foods. Keep your environment safe – if the food isn’t there you will create a “pause point” allowing you to think about your choice. Remain active – 30 to 60 minutes most days.
