The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is comprised of more than 60 board-certified physicians who are firmly committed to shaping the future of orthopaedic surgery while delivering exceptional care to our patients every day.

Our orthopedic surgeons are specialists who use both surgical and nonsurgical procedures to treat seven specialty areas of orthopedics: hip and knee, shoulder and elbow, foot and ankle, hand and wrist, spine, sports medicine and musculoskeletal oncology.

Research and Education

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is currently ranked fourth in the U.S. and first in Pennsylvania for our NIH-funded research, and is the recipient of substantial research funding from the U.S. Department of Defense and private industry.

Our orthopedic surgeons continually set new standards of care worldwide and share their knowledge through their many influential publications, with more than 400 book chapters, 40+ textbooks and several hundred peer-reviewed journal articles in the last decade.
