Families close to Philadelphia continue to have access to general and specialty pediatric care at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals. Our specialized outpatient pediatric rehabilitation services are also provided at the Children's Rehabilitation Hospital at Jefferson. In Wilmington, Delaware, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children's 128-bed facility is designed around the needs of the hospitalized child. Building on its historic reputation as a world-class pediatric orthopedic center, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has, in recent decades, become a full-service pediatric medical center. The Medical Center of Delaware's Christiana Hospital offers general pediatric care as well as specialized care in areas such as neonatology, cardiac surgery and pediatric trauma.

Neonatal Intensive Care

Our Neonatal Intensive Care service is one of the largest neonatal programs in the area with the capability of caring for 40 babies in our intensive care and transitional nursery units. Each year, more than 800 sick babies are brought to the unit from various hospitals in southeastern Pennsylvania and the tri-state area who are in need of a higher level of critical care.

Research and Education

Research within the affiliated system is also concentrated at the duPont Hospital for Children and includes significant programs in applied science and engineering in rehabilitation; clinical medical sciences in a host of areas; and developmental biology, including a leading effort in teratology.
