About the Division of Nephrology
Director, Division of Nephrology
Nephrology is the art and science of the care of the kidney. The skilled physicians and staff of Jefferson's Division of Nephrology in Philadelphia offer comprehensive care for chronic or acute renal disorders, kidney stones, diabetic kidney disease, renal failure and secondary and essential hypertension; complications due to pregnancy; and dialysis treatment or transplantation.
Jefferson performs a large amount of kidney transplants per year and the Division staff play a significant and personalized role. Weekly meetings are held to evaluate transplant candidates based on medical testing, psychological evaluation and the discussion of the benefits and risks of transplantation. The Division also plays an active role with the post-transplant patient.
Inpatient dialysis treatment is provided in the state-of-the-art Acute Dialysis Unit for chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients. Hemodialysis machines and dialysis software are continually updated in order to provide our patients with the best care.
