About the Jefferson Heart Institute
At the Jefferson Heart Institute, we emphasize the prevention and management of cardiovascular disorders, as well as advancing the use of innovative noninvasive approaches to treating patients without open-heart surgery.
We provide a full range of care for coronary artery disease, heart arrhythmia, heart muscle disease, congenital heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, heart valve problems and congestive heart failure. We offer patients with heart disorders the broadest and most sophisticated diagnostic and treatment options in the Delaware Valley. In fact, Jefferson was one of the first heart centers in the U.S. to implant stents to open blocked arteries and to use drug-eluting stents to prevent re-obstruction of coronary vessels after stenting.
Named a Top Hospital for Heart by Philadelphia magazine, we are the only hospital in the Philadelphia region — and one of only a handful in the nation — to offer the Philips Brilliance iCT 256-slice scanner. This advanced technology allows us to image arteries and the heart with never-before-seen clarity and details in order to make accurate diagnoses of coronary heart disease.
Patients have access to an array of cardiac treatment options, including medication, dietary adjustments, exercise, angioplasty, ablation and heart surgery. Our physicians have helped pioneer the use of minimally invasive procedures that enable a growing number of patients to avoid open-heart surgery. This translates into less patient discomfort, fewer medications and earlier discharges from the Hospital.

Cardiology Research Foundation at the Jefferson Heart Institute
Complementing our clinical care role, the Jefferson Heart Institute supports basic and clinical research programs in cardiovascular medicine and surgery to advance the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Physicians and scientists have participated in numerous landmark cardiac clinical trials to further pharmaceutical, device and genome research.
The Jefferson Heart Institute also provides a wide range of educational programs specifically designed for medical students, residents, cardiac fellows, cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons in training, as well as the development of programs for practicing cardiologists, internists, other physicians and nurses in the community and the public.
