About the Infant Apnea Program

You may notice that your baby is having difficulty breathing or has noisy breathing while sleeping; these may be signs of infant apnea. Infant apnea is a challenging diagnostic and therapeutic problem in pediatrics. Jefferson pediatricians and neonatologists provide a comprehensive examination of infants and children who have sleep-related breathing disorders.

With both fixed and portable evaluation units, our team employs a polysomnographic approach to identify breathing patterns, measure nasal and oral air flow and measure blood oxygen saturation levels, noninvasively. Caring for both referred patients and many term and preterm infants in Jefferson's nurseries, Jeff neonatologists evaluate, and in some cases treat, congenital or neurologic defects, as well as infections, seizures and other contributors to apneic conditions.
