About the Joint Replacement Program
Jefferson's Joint Replacement Program is one of the nation's most prestigious, reflected in an impressive volume of more than 6,700 joint replacement surgeries performed annually. The reconstructive surgeons of the Rothman Institute at Jefferson and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals' Department of Orthopedic Surgery have undergone advanced subspecialty training, translating to excellent surgical outcomes.
Our specialists are training the orthopaedic surgeons of today and tomorrow, lecturing and conducting webcasts and surgical satellite simulcasts to surgeons around the country and the world.
Our orthopedic specialists and surgeons have also been instrumental in:
- Advancing new technologies in joint replacement, including the design, study and development of various lower and upper prostheses.
- Hip dysplasia (DDH) in younger individuals. Hip dysplasia is one of the leading causes of degenerative arthritis. Our Program specialists provide joint preservation options, such as periacetabular pelvic osteotomy, for these young patients with symptomatic arthritis of the hip.
- Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) in younger patients. We are equipped to provide evaluation and treatment using hip arthroscopy and mini-incision techniques.
