You become increasingly aware of what actually creates stress and how your body responds to it. Once you are aware then you have the choice to intervene. The formal mindfulness practices like awareness of breath and scanning the body can be done on the spot to help. That awareness and those practices actually help you reduce your stress.
The more mindful one becomes the more you're able to consciously respond to what life presents rather than reacting automatically with behavior that doesn’t serve you well.
