Families close to Philadelphia continue to have access to general and specialty pediatric care at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals. Our specialized outpatient pediatric rehabilitation services are also provided at the Children's Rehabilitation Hospital at Jefferson.
In Wilmington, Delaware, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children's 128-bed facility is designed around the needs of the hospitalized child. Building on its historic reputation as a world-class pediatric orthopedic center, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has, in recent decades, become a full-service pediatric medical center. The Medical Center of Delaware's Christiana Hospital offers general pediatric care as well as specialized care in areas such as neonatology, cardiac surgery and pediatric trauma.
Neonatal Intensive Care
Our Neonatal Intensive Care service is one of the largest neonatal programs in the area with the capability of caring for 40 babies in our intensive care and transitional nursery units. Each year, more than 800 sick babies are brought to the unit from various hospitals in southeastern Pennsylvania and the tri-state area who are in need of a higher level of critical care.
Our Unit is a Level III tertiary referral unit staffed by board-certified neonatologists; this is the highest-level accreditation granted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Nemours Neonatal Follow Up Program
All babies born at Jefferson are special babies. However, when a newborn is born under critical circumstances including prematurity, acute respiratory distress and medical, surgical and cardiac disorders, their first days of life are spent in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), recognized as one of the best in the Philadelphia region.
Once the baby is stabilized and discharged, our care doesn't end there. Our physicians and nurse practitioners will provide clinical follow-up through our Nemours Neonatal Follow Up Program. This is to ensure that you and the baby are doing well and to answer any questions you may have. We will also schedule follow-up appointments so that we can monitor the baby's progress and ensure you have all the support you need in the days and weeks following discharge.
The practice is located at
833 Chestnut Street,
Philadelphia, PA 19107. We see patients on Wednesdays. Appointments can be made by calling 215-861-8830.
Pediatric surgery is not limited to one area of the body but encompasses diseases that are unique to children or require special expertise. Our partnership with Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children allows us to provide expert general and specialized surgical care for infants and children.
At Jefferson and at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, pediatric surgeons perform procedures ranging from the routine to more complex surgeries. Jefferson pediatric surgeons perform highly advanced neonatal surgery for correcting life-threatening congenital conditions.
